Germantown Emergency Center

In 2005, the upcounty community joined together to win approval for the Germantown Emergency Center. After nearly three years of successful operations, this high-quality facility provides important emergency medical services to more than 33,000 patients each year. The Emergency Center and a well-planned Clarksburg hospital and medical campus off I-270 will expand access to medical care for the entire upcounty region.

  • Meeting the Upcounty’s Health Care Needs: The Germantown Emergency Center, a freestanding, 24-hour emergency department, provides high-quality, emergency medical care to more than 36,000 patients each year.
  • High Quality Care: The facility is staffed by board-certified emergency physicians and emergency nurses who are trained and equipped to treat a full range of medical conditions from critical to routine, including: pneumonia, broken bones, chest pain, renal failure, respiratory distress, concussions, appendicitis and asthma, among others.
  • Comprehensive Medical Care in Germantown: The Emergency Center is an integral part of health services in Germantown, which include a primary care clinic for uninsured residents, a prenatal clinic for low-income women, outpatient radiology services and physician offices.
  • Clarksburg Community Hospital: The proposed Clarksburg Community Hospital will be a 100-bed facility right off of I-270 and Route 121 offering a range of high-quality inpatient services including adult medical/surgical, obstetrics, newborn, ambulatory surgical, emergency, radiologic/diagnostic and intensive care.
  • Thoughtful Planning: The Clarksburg hospital and campus already has traffic and land-use approvals in place, respecting the environment and blending seamlessly into the surrounding community of businesses and residences.
  • Status of State Approval: State regulators are currently reviewing the Clarksburg hospital proposal, which along with the Germantown Emergency Center, will provide greater access to medical care for the entire upcounty compared to a last-minute proposal for a hospital on the campus of Montgomery College-Germantown that will negatively impact nearby health-care services.
