Adventist HealthCare President Receives 2009 Leadership Award

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Bill Robertson, president and chief executive officer of Adventist HealthCare in Rockville, has been named the 2009 Outstanding Leader by Leadership Montgomery.

Robertson was honored in part for leading Adventist HealthCare, the largest provider of uncompensated and charity health care in Montgomery County, as it expanded access to health care for the uninsured by opening community clinics in Silver Spring and Germantown. Robertson was also recognized for his work as chairman of the Maryland Governor’s Workforce Investment Board and his vice chairmanship of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

Robertson has been president and CEO of Adventist HealthCare since 2000. The health-care organization is currently in the process of seeking state approval to relocate Washington Adventist Hospital to the White Oak/Calverton section of Montgomery County and turning the hospital’s current Takoma Park campus into a Village of Health and Well-Being. Adventist HealthCare is also seeking approval to build a long-planned hospital and medical campus in Clarksburg.

“Bill Robertson joined Leadership Montgomery as a newcomer to the county and quickly learned everything he could about what makes Montgomery County unique and special,” said Esther B. Newman, Founder and Executive Director of Leadership Montgomery. “His calm demeanor, strategic thinking, deep faith, and sense of humor make him a wonderful person to work with.”

The Outstanding Leader Award, which recognizes, rewards and fosters exemplary leadership affecting citizens of Montgomery County, was given to Robertson at the group’s June celebration.

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

The state will conduct a comparative review of two hospitals that have been proposed in the upcounty.

Adventist HealthCare, which has been planning a hospital in Clarksburg for several years, has been petitioning state lawmakers and the Maryland Health Care Commission for a comparative review since Holy Cross Hospital’s announcement in August that it had begun the formal review process to build a hospital on Montgomery College’s Germantown campus.
